Study circles and consultations

1    Islamabad, 7th May 2014, 1st Seminar on ‘Enhancing gender Equality in politics’ Women in Political Parties
Representative of all political parties attended the seminar as well as chairperson of National Assembly Parliamentary Committee Mr. Abdul Manan, Chairperson of Senate Committee on Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Jahangir Badar, National Commission on status of women (NCSW), Ministry of Law Justice Human Rights, Government officials civil society organizations and international partners.

2    Islamabad, 13th May 2014, ‘Enhancing gender Equality in politics’ Quota seats.
Seminar was held in Serena Hotel Islamabad which was graced by the Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. It was also attended by large number of Parliamentarians from all parties, Chairpersons of Parliamentary Affairs Committees Ms. Khawar Mumtaz Chairperson of National Commission on Status of Women (NCSW), Ministry of Law Justice Human Rights, Government official’s civil society organizations and international partners.
•    Having a system for both quota and direct election for women
•    Strengthen political parties to have transparent and democratic electoral process within party to enable women to complete directly for party positions
•    Strengthening women wings in  political parties and bring forward women
•    Setting up electoral schools at local, provincial and federal level

3    Consultation on women’s political empowerment facilitated by NCSW
Held at serena hotel Islamabad, included deliberations on the amendment to the political parties act, Amendment to the Representation of People Act (ROPA), the national policy framework on gender equality and the future legislation required for ensuring women’s effective participation on politics.

4    Islamabad, 15th May 2014 Consultation on Women’s citizenship rights, rights to vote (legal provisions to enable women to exercise their right to vote)

5    Islamabad, 25th March 2015, Orientation on National Policy for Home-based Workers

6    Beijing plus 20 and Sustainable Development Goals on 27th july 2015
The study circle included a presentation by honorable MNA Marriyum Aurangzeb, Chairperson Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals. The study circle discussed the role of women parliamentarians in sustainable Development and the impact of shift from Millennium Development Goals to Sustainable Development Goals.

7    Bhurban, 1st-3rd April 2015, 2-Day Sensitization Workshop with Women Parliamentarians
The workshop aimed to increase the knowledge of women parliamentarians on legislative process and to develop network and alliance among national and provincial women caucuses.

8    First Workshop on Countering Violent Extremists and Inclusive Security by Inst. Of Inclusive Security, (April 2015)

9    Elimination of violence against women and launching of 16 days of activism.’ On 25th November 2015
The study circle deliberated on the existing laws on violence against women and the role women Parliamentarian can play to eliminate violence against women.
