July 31, 2019 – Patron Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) and Federal Minister Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Chairperson of the CPA Executive Committee and Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Cameroon Hon. Ms. Emilia Monjowa Lifaka, Member of parliament of Uganda Hon. Jalia Bintu, Speaker Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Shah Ghulam Qadir, Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari, Federal Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal , Speaker of the provincial assembly of Sindh Rehana Leghari and leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly Firdous Shamim Naqvi graced the event with their presence in addition to other dignitaries.
Addressing the CWP Seminar of the fifth Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Asia Regional Conference 2019, Secretary WPC Munaza Hassan emphasized the role of women in politics and the challenges faced by women worldwide. She highlighted that women parliamentarians are more actively engaged in legislative work compared to their male counterparts. Women work and it needs to be conveyed.
MNA Munaza Hassan said gender-responsive legislation social protection programmes can definitely empower women in any state and society. She said that the incumbent government is bringing many legislations to safeguard the rights of women. She also highlighted the grave issue of workplace harassment.
Federal Minister for Human Rights, Dr.Shireen Mazari while addressing, emphasized on the importance of empowerment among women. Empowerment begins at home, she said. It is time to empower ourselves and break taboos, which actually stop women from achieving what they intend to, said Dr. Mazari. She lauded the efforts of WPC and extended her ministry’s support in this regard
Addressing the CWP Seminar in Islamabad, Federal Minister Dr. Fehmida Mirza said women are contributing for the betterment of the country. “As the Patron of the WPC, I want to highlight the incredible contributions made by the WPC in their struggle for political empowerment”, she said.
Women’s exclusion in the formal political processes is the result of multiple structural, institutional and functional obstacles that are present in the country. Political parties should ensure women representation at the decision making forums, stated the Federal Minister.
Patron Dr. Fehmida Mirza along with Secretary WPC Munaza Hassan distributed souvenirs among foreign delegates and extended their wishes for future endeavors. Respective Foreign Delegates appreciated the countrywide participation for CWP Seminar.
