WPC Delegation Visit to NADRA Headquarter

21st December, 2022 – Secretary WPC Ms. Shahida Rehmani (MNA) along with Women Parliamentarians visited NADRA Headquarters, Islamabad where they were briefed by Chairman NADRA Mr. Tariq Malik. The main objectives of the visit were to discuss socio-cultural barriers in the registration of women CNICs and the multifaceted challenges of issuance of succession certificates to women. Mr. Malik stated that during last one year NADRA has successfully registered around 4.4 million women CNICs. It has decreased the gender gap from 14% to 6.4%. WPC Members appreciated these efforts towards bringing more women into State’s record and securing their right to vote by registering them.

In an interactive session with NADRA team, Secretary WPC discussed issues pertaining succession certificates. Chairman NADRA highlighted that more than 10,000 succession certificates have been issued to women countrywide. He also discussed the challenge of religion and sects that his team faced during the procedure. NADRA hired 45 lawyers to provide sect wise solutions regarding issuance of succession certificates. WPC Members lauded Chairman NADRA for this initiative.

Further on, Mr. Malik stressed the need for a partnership between WPC and NADRA for joint advocacy campaign regarding the registration of women CNICs. Secretary WPC reiterated that CNICs are an enabler of women empowerment and assured Chairman NADRA of full support from WPC platform for advocacy and policy interventions on it.
